Boca Raton, Florida – June 11, 2014 – The experts on teen substance abuse at Inspirations for Youth and Families (IYF) teen rehab have teamed up with the National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA) NBA Legends and Ball Stars Youth Camp to give a presentation on the prevention of teen drug and alcohol addiction to preteens and teenagers in West Palm Beach, July 13, 2014.
“Our goal is to provide as many at-risk kids as possible with an opportunity to attend our camps at no cost,” said Otis Birdsong, a four-time NBA-All-Star, who leads the camp along with NBA great Michael Ray Richardson. “But the camp provides much more than just teaching kids basketball fundamentals and that is why we have invited the fine people of IYF to educate the campers on the hazards of drug and alcohol abuse.”
According to IYF, drugs and alcohol abuse is very prevalent in the south Florida community, especially among those most susceptible including teenagers and young adults. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, nearly 50% of high school seniors do not see the harm in trying crack or cocaine once or twice. Nearly 40% believe it’s not harmful to use heroin on one or multiple occasions.
